About BulletProof Helmet

Today, bulletproof helmets have become an indispensable part of the safety equipment for police agencies and militaries. Their use is not only limited to the military, but any organization or even individuals needing safety protection can equip bulletproof helmets as necessary. For example, special police units, riot police, and even patrol officers can be equipped with bulletproof helmets.

 

Bulletproof helmets have different protection levels, and these levels usually need to be tested according to the standards of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). NIJ protection levels are rated based on the type of bullet they can resist. Generally speaking, levels III and IV can defend against common rifle bullets; NIJ levels I to III can resist various handgun bullets.

 

 

Looking at the structure, bulletproof helmets can be divided into PASGT, FAST, and MICH types, which are mainly classified according to the height of the ear cut. PASGT stands for Personnel Armor System for Ground Troops and typically has 19 separate bullet protection layers, with a design that partially covers the wearer’s ears. MICH stands for Modular Integrated Communications Helmet, and it is normally made of Kevlar, having a level IIIA defense capability. 

The MICH helmet is specifically designed to resist 9mm and .44 MAG bullets as well as blunt force attacks. It allows more space for the wearer's ears for communication equipment use. Its initial design included a brim and a lower ear cut, but the brim and the ear coverings were gradually eliminated later. The FAST (Future Assault Shell Technology) helmet, also known as the fast combat helmet, has the highest ear cut among the three types and is usually chosen by special forces units.

 

At this point, many people believe that bulletproof helmets are just for bullet protection. In fact, apart from a certain level of bulletproof function, their main purpose is to resist shrapnel and other object impacts. This is very important for law enforcement and security personnel. Especially, the police and security departments are more likely to encounter impact weapons, projectiles, and other head impact dangers. Therefore, for bulletproof helmets, their bulletproof capability and impact resistance are equally important.
